Ingredients
Scale
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- Optional: ½ cup chocolate chips, walnuts, or pecans for added texture and flavor
Instructions
- Melt the Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.
- Mix the Wet Ingredients: Whisk in the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract into the melted butter. Stir until well combined and smooth.
- Add the Dry Ingredients: Stir in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until the batter is thick and smooth. If you’re using chocolate chips or nuts, fold them in at this point.
- Prepare the Baking Pan: Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper. Pour the batter into the pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake the Brownies: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes. Check the brownies for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center—if it comes out with moist crumbs, they’re done.
- Cool and Slice: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. Once they’ve cooled completely, cut them into squares and serve.
