Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (454g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tail-on preferred)
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups (150g) panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying (approximately 3 cups)
  • 1/2 cup (170g) honey
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 23 tbsp hot sauce
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat shrimp completely dry with paper towels. In a shallow dish, combine flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Set up a breading station with seasoned flour, beaten eggs, and panko breadcrumbs in separate dishes.
  3. Dredge shrimp in flour, then dip in egg, and finally coat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs. Place on a wire rack.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pan to 350-375°F (175-190°C).
  5. Fry shrimp in small batches for 2-3 minutes, turning once, until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to paper towels to drain.
  6. Make the sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan, add garlic and cook 30 seconds. Stir in honey, hot sauce, red pepper flakes, and salt. Simmer 2-3 minutes, then add lemon juice.
  7. Gently toss fried shrimp with hot honey sauce, or drizzle sauce over shrimp on a serving platter.
  8. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately with lemon wedges.
