Description

Sausage Hashbrown Appetizers packed with savory sausage, crispy hashbrowns, and irresistible flavors. Quick, comforting, crowd-pleasing!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 oz (567g) refrigerated shredded hashbrowns, thawed
  • 3 Tbsp (45ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp (5g) salt
  • ½ tsp (2g) black pepper
  • 1 lb (454g) ground breakfast sausage (mild or hot, based on preference)
  • 1 cup (113g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped (about ¼ cup)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp (5ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup (60ml) sour cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat Your Oven Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C). Generously spray a standard 24-cup mini muffin tin with cooking spray. This prevents sticking and helps achieve that beautiful golden exterior on your Sausage Hashbrown Appetizers.
  2. Step 2: Mix Hashbrown Mixture In a large bowl, combine the thawed hashbrowns, vegetable oil, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon pepper. Mix thoroughly until every shred is lightly coated with oil and seasonings. The oil will help create that irresistibly crispy texture we’re aiming for.
  3. Step 3: Form Hashbrown Cups Divide the hashbrown mixture evenly among the muffin cups (about 1½ tablespoons per cup). Press firmly into the bottom and up the sides of each cup, creating a nest-like shape. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the edges turn golden brown and crispy.
  4. Step 4: Cook Sausage Mixture While the hashbrown cups bake, brown the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. When almost cooked through, add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, remaining salt, and pepper. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat.
  5. Step 5: Fill Hashbrown Cups Remove the hashbrown cups from the oven (leave the oven on). Sprinkle half the cheese into the bottom of the cups, then top with the sausage mixture, dividing it evenly among all cups.
  6. Step 6: Bake Again Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top of the sausage layer and return to the oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese melts completely. You’ll know they’re perfect when the edges of the hashbrowns are deeply golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  7. Step 7: Serve and Enjoy Allow the Sausage Hashbrown Appetizers to cool in the tin for 5 minutes before carefully removing them using a small offset spatula or butter knife around the edges. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve with small dollops of sour cream if desired.

Notes

Fresh ingredients will always yield the best flavor results.
