Description
Enjoy this Sausage Breakfast Casserole with eggs, sausage, cheese, and bread. A hearty, delicious breakfast for any occasion.
Ingredients
- Sausage: 1 pound (ground Beef, turkey sausage, or your preferred variety)
- Eggs: 6 large (for a rich, eggy base)
- Bread: 4 cups (cubed, use day-old bread or your favorite bread)
- Cheese: 1 ½ cups (shredded cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
- Milk: 1 cup (whole or 2% for a creamier texture)
- Salt and Pepper: To taste (for seasoning)
- Onion: 1 small, diced (optional, for extra flavor)
- Bell Peppers: 1 cup, diced (optional, for added crunch and flavor)
- Garlic: 2 cloves, minced (optional, for added fragrance)
Instructions
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned, breaking it up into small crumbles. If you’re using vegetables like onions and bell peppers, add them to the skillet and cook until softened. Drain any excess fat from the sausage and vegetables.
- Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. If you’re using garlic powder or other seasonings, add them to the mixture as well.
- Assemble the Casserole: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the cubed bread evenly across the bottom of the dish. Top with the cooked sausage and vegetable mixture. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and sausage. Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top.
- Bake: Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the eggs are fully set. You can check by inserting a toothpick in the center—if it comes out clean, the casserole is done.
- Serve: Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Slice into squares and serve hot.
