Description

Mongolian Ground Beef: Flavorful beef stir-fry with ginger, soy sauce, and garlic. Quick, easy, and crowd-pleasing recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (454g) lean ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • ½ cup (120ml) low-sodium soy sauce
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ cup (60ml) water
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 6 green onions, sliced diagonally (whites and greens separated)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare The Sauce In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, water, hoisin sauce, and red pepper flakes until the sugar dissolves. Set this mixture aside.
  2. Step 2: Brown The Beef Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and no pink remains.
  3. Step 3: Add Aromatics Push the beef to one side of the pan and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil. Add the garlic, ginger, and white parts of the green onions. Sauté until fragrant.
  4. Step 4: Combine And Simmer Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and aromatics, bring to a simmer, and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Thicken And Finish Stir in the cornstarch slurry and continue cooking until the sauce thickens. Add the green parts of the scallions.
  6. Step 6: Serve Transfer the Mongolian Ground Beef to a serving plate, garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, and serve over rice. Enjoy!
