Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 8 oz (225g) smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced into ¼-inch rounds
  • 4 cups (300g) broccoli florets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 tablespoons
  • ¼ cup (60ml) honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons water or chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced sausage and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove to a plate with a slotted spoon.
  2. In the same skillet, add butter and then shrimp in a single layer. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes per side until pink. Remove and set aside with sausage.
  3. Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in honey, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes, whisking to combine. Simmer for 2 minutes.
  4. For a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water and whisk into the simmering sauce until thickened.
  5. Add broccoli florets to the skillet with 2 tablespoons water or broth. Cover and steam for 3 minutes until crisp-tender.
  6. Return sausage and shrimp to the skillet, tossing to coat everything in sauce. Cook 1-2 minutes more to reheat and combine flavors.
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving over rice, quinoa, or with crusty bread.
