Ingredients
Scale
- 1½ pounds (680g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch cubes
- ½ cup (60g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying
- ⅓ cup (80ml) honey
- 4 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 tablespoons)
- ¼ cup (60ml) low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
Instructions
- Pat chicken pieces dry with paper towels. In a medium bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Toss chicken pieces in the flour mixture until completely coated, shaking off excess.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken in batches for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through (165°F/74°C internal temperature).
- Transfer cooked chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- In the same skillet (remove excess oil), sauté minced garlic for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, and sesame oil. Bring to a gentle simmer for 2 minutes.
- Stir the cornstarch slurry and pour into the sauce, stirring constantly until thickened (1-2 minutes).
- Return chicken to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Simmer together for 1 minute.
- Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
- Serve immediately while hot and sticky.
