Description
Homemade Pizza Rolls bursting with gooey cheese, pepperoni, and marinara sauce. Quick, comforting, and crowd-pleasing recipe!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup (180ml) warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ¾ cup (180ml) pizza sauce (homemade or quality store-bought)
- 2 cups (225g) shredded mozzarella cheese
- ⅓ cup (40g) grated parmesan cheese
- 4 oz (115g) pepperoni, finely diced
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp butter, melted (for brushing)
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the Dough In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the warm water and olive oil. Mix until everything comes together, then transfer to a floured surface. Knead for 5-7 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot for 45-60 minutes until doubled in size.
- Step 2: Create the Filling Mixture While the dough rises, combine the mozzarella, parmesan, diced pepperoni, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder in a medium bowl. Mix thoroughly, but keep the pizza sauce separate for now – adding it directly to the cheese mixture would make it too wet and potentially soggy.
- Step 3: Roll and Fill Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Divide the risen dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll each half into a thin rectangle, approximately 9×12 inches. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over each rectangle, leaving a ½-inch border. Sprinkle the cheese and pepperoni mixture evenly over the sauce.
- Step 4: Form the Rolls Working with one rectangle at a time, carefully roll the dough from the long edge (like a jelly roll), keeping it tight as you go. When completely rolled, pinch the seam to seal and place seam-side down. Using a sharp knife, cut into 1-inch pieces. Transfer the pieces to a parchment-lined baking sheet, placing them cut-side up, about 1 inch apart.
- Step 5: Bake to Perfection Brush each Homemade Pizza Roll with melted butter. Bake for 15-18 minutes until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly. Let them cool for 5 minutes before serving – the filling will be extremely hot straight from the oven! Serve with additional warm pizza sauce for dipping if desired.
