Description

Ground Beef Lo Mein: Delicious stir-fried noodles cooked with ground beef, veggies, and savory sauce. Quick, comforting, and crowd-pleasing dish!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 8 oz (225g) lo mein noodles (or substitute spaghetti)
  • 1 pound (450g) lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 carrots, julienned (about 1 cup)
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups cabbage, shredded
  • 3 green onions, sliced diagonally

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the sauce Begin by preparing your sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and water until the sugar dissolves completely. Set this aside while you prepare the remaining ingredients.
  2. Step 2: Cook the noodles Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook the lo mein noodles according to package directions, but subtract 1 minute from the recommended cooking time. Drain immediately and rinse under cold water to prevent sticking. Toss with a drizzle of sesame oil if not using right away.
  3. Step 3: Cook the ground beef Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat until shimmering. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-6 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Transfer the cooked beef to a clean plate, leaving behind any rendered fat in the pan.
  4. Step 4: Stir-fry the vegetables and aromatics Return the wok to high heat and add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add onions and stir-fry for 1 minute until they begin to soften. Add the garlic and ginger, stirring constantly for 30 seconds until fragrant – be careful not to let them burn as this will create bitterness in your Ground Beef Lo Mein.
  5. Step 5: Add the vegetables Add the carrots and bell pepper, stir-frying for 2 minutes until they begin to soften but remain crisp. Add the cabbage and continue stir-frying for another minute. The key here is maintaining high heat while keeping everything moving to achieve that perfect crisp-tender vegetable texture.
  6. Step 6: Combine everything Return the cooked ground beef to the wok, then add the prepared noodles. Pour the sauce mixture over everything and use tongs to toss and combine all ingredients, ensuring the noodles are evenly coated with sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes until everything is heated through and the sauce slightly thickens.
  7. Step 7: Finish and serve Remove from heat and toss in the green onions, reserving some for garnish. Give everything one final toss and transfer your **Ground Beef Lo Mein** to a serving dish. Garnish with the remaining green onions and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

Fresh ingredients will always yield the best flavor results.
