- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 2 pounds)
- 8 slices provolone cheese (about 8 ounces)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Optional: 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- Pat chicken breasts dry and pound to even 3/4-inch thickness if needed.
- Mix olive oil, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, pepper, and minced garlic in a small bowl.
- Brush the seasoning mixture generously over both sides of each chicken breast.
- Arrange chicken in the baking dish with space between pieces and drizzle with lemon juice.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until chicken reaches about 155°F internal temperature.
- Remove from oven and top each breast with two slices of provolone cheese, slightly overlapping.
- Sprinkle with optional Parmesan cheese if using.
- Return to oven and bake 5-7 more minutes until cheese is melted.
- Switch to broil for 1-2 minutes to achieve a golden brown top, watching carefully.
- Remove when chicken reaches 165°F internal temperature and cheese is bubbling.
- Let rest 5 minutes before garnishing with fresh parsley and serving.
