Ingredients

Scale
  • pounds (680g) ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 4 tablespoons (57g) unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • ⅓ cup (80ml) BBQ sauce
  • 3 tablespoons (63g) honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 810 taco shells or soft tortillas
  • Toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced avocado, chopped cilantro, lime wedges, sour cream, and shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for 7-8 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary, leaving about a tablespoon. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Push beef to one side of the skillet and add butter to the empty side. Once melted, add minced garlic to the butter and cook for 30-45 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  3. Mix the garlic butter into the beef, stirring to coat evenly. Add smoked paprika and cayenne pepper, combining thoroughly.
  4. Pour in BBQ sauce, honey, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 3-4 minutes until flavors meld and sauce thickens slightly.
  5. While beef simmers, warm taco shells according to package directions or toast them for enhanced flavor.
  6. To assemble, fill each shell with the garlic butter honey BBQ beef mixture, then add desired toppings: lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, cheese, sour cream, fresh cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice.
