Crispy Bang Bang Salmon Bites – Crunchy salmon coated in tangy bang bang sauce. Quick, crowd-pleasing recipe with a spicy kick!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound (450g) fresh salmon fillet, skin removed and cut into 1-inch cubes
- ½ cup (62g) all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1½ cups (90g) panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2–3 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying
- ½ cup (115g) mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1–2 tablespoons sriracha sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- Fresh cilantro leaves (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the Salmon Begin by patting your salmon fillet completely dry with paper towels. This ensures your Crispy Bang Bang Salmon Bites will get properly crispy. Using a sharp knife, carefully remove the skin (if present) and cut the salmon into even 1-inch cubes. Try to make the pieces uniform in size to ensure they cook at the same rate. Season the salmon cubes lightly with a pinch of salt and set aside.
- Step 2: Set Up Breading Station Create an assembly line with three shallow dishes: place flour in the first dish; beat the eggs with 1 tablespoon of water in the second dish; and in the third dish, combine panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Having everything ready in this order will make the breading process efficient and less messy.
- Step 3: Bread the Salmon Working with a few pieces at a time, gently toss the salmon cubes in flour, shaking off excess. Next, dip them in the beaten egg, ensuring they’re completely coated. Finally, transfer to the panko mixture, pressing gently to adhere the breadcrumbs to all sides. Place the breaded salmon bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. For extra crispiness, refrigerate the breaded bites for 10 minutes before frying.
- Step 4: Prepare the Bang Bang Sauce While the breaded salmon is resting, make your sauce. In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, lime juice, and minced garlic. Whisk until smooth and well-blended. Taste and adjust the sriracha for your preferred level of spiciness. Set aside one-third of the sauce for serving, and reserve the rest for coating the cooked salmon bites.
- Step 5: Cook the Salmon Bites Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Carefully add the breaded salmon in a single layer, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for about 2 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C). Transfer cooked bites to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Step 6: Coat and Serve While still warm, gently toss the fried salmon bites in two-thirds of the prepared bang bang sauce until evenly coated. Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and cilantro if desired. Serve immediately with the reserved sauce on the side for dipping. These Crispy Bang Bang Salmon Bites are best enjoyed hot while the contrast between the crispy exterior and tender salmon is at its peak!
