Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 2 pounds)
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese (about 8 ounces)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup dry white wine (or chicken broth for alcohol-free version)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and half the thyme, then arrange in a single layer in the baking dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together cream of chicken soup, sour cream, white wine (or broth), remaining thyme, and onion powder until smooth.
  4. Pour the creamy mixture evenly over the chicken breasts, making sure each piece is well-coated.
  5. Lay two slices of Swiss cheese over each chicken breast, slightly overlapping them.
  6. In a small bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs with melted butter until all crumbs are moistened.
  7. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the cheese layer.
  8. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes, until chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) and the top is golden brown and bubbling.
  9. Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving, then garnish with fresh parsley.
