Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ⅔ cup (135g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 2¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (red, green, or colors of choice)
  • Sprinkles, colored sugar, or nonpareils for decorating
  • Optional: ¼ cup finely chopped nuts or ½ cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare cookie press with desired disc design. Do not grease baking sheets.
  2. Beat butter until creamy, then add sugar and beat until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add egg and beat until incorporated, then mix in vanilla and almond extract if using.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing just until combined.
  5. Divide dough if using multiple colors, then add food coloring and mix until evenly distributed.
  6. Fill cookie press with dough and press cookies onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing about 1.5 inches apart.
  7. Add sprinkles or decorations if desired before baking.
  8. Bake for 6-8 minutes until set but not browned.
  9. Allow to cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.
