Description

Canned Biscuit Pretzel Bites: Quick, comforting bites made with canned biscuits and sprinkled with salt for a crowd-pleasing snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tube (16.3 oz/462g) refrigerated biscuit dough (8 count)
  • 8 cups (1.9L) water
  • ½ cup (120g) baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sea salt or pretzel salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (optional)
  • For serving (optional):
  • ¼ cup (60ml) honey mustard
  • ¼ cup (60ml) cheese sauce
  • ¼ cup (60ml) marinara sauce

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set up your workstation with a slotted spoon, kitchen towels, and a small bowl containing the beaten egg. Cut each biscuit into four equal pieces, then gently roll each piece between your palms to form a smooth ball.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Baking Soda Bath In a medium saucepan, bring the 8 cups of water to a simmer over medium heat. Once simmering, carefully add the baking soda—it will fizz up momentarily, so add it gradually. Stir until completely dissolved and maintain a gentle simmer.
  3. Step 3: Boil the Pretzel Bites Working in batches of 8-10 pieces, carefully drop the biscuit dough balls into the simmering baking soda solution. Allow them to cook for 20-30 seconds—you’ll notice they start to expand slightly and take on a slightly paler appearance. Using a slotted spoon, remove them promptly and place on paper towels to drain briefly.
  4. Step 4: Egg Wash and Salt Transfer the boiled pretzel bites to your prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Brush each one generously with the beaten egg, making sure to coat all sides. Immediately sprinkle with coarse salt before the egg wash dries.
  5. Step 5: Bake to Perfection Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-12 minutes, or until the pretzel bites are deeply golden brown. Keep a close eye on them after the 8-minute mark as they can brown quickly. For extra richness, brush the hot pretzel bites with melted butter immediately after removing from the oven.
  6. Step 6: Cool and Serve Allow the Canned Biscuit Pretzel Bites to cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a serving dish. They’re best enjoyed warm with your favorite dipping sauces like honey mustard, cheese sauce, or marinara.
