Cabbage and Sausage Recipe

Description

Try this easy Cabbage and Sausage Recipe for a comforting, flavorful meal. Perfect for a hearty dinner with minimal prep!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced into rounds
  • 1 medium head of cabbage, shredded or chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or more, depending on your preference)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or mustard (optional, for tanginess)
  • 1 cup chicken broth (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. Brown the sausage: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned and crispy on both sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage and set it aside.
  2. Cook the onions and garlic: In the same skillet, add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 2-3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the cabbage: Stir in the shredded cabbage and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cabbage will begin to soften and shrink in size.
  4. Season the dish: Add salt, pepper, and paprika to the cabbage and stir well. Return the sausage to the skillet and mix it in.
  5. Simmer: Add the chicken broth (if using) and cover the skillet. Reduce the heat to low and let everything simmer for about 10-15 minutes, until the cabbage is tender but still has a bit of texture. If using vinegar or mustard, add it toward the end of cooking for a tangy finish.
  6. Serve: Once the cabbage is tender and the sausage is heated through, serve the dish hot. You can garnish with fresh herbs or serve it alongside crusty bread for a complete meal.
