Burger in a Bowl

Description

Skip the bun, not the fun! This Burger in a Bowl delivers all the juicy, cheesy goodness of your favorite burger without the carb overload.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (454g) ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5g) black pepper
  • 4 cups (280g) romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 1 cup (150g) cherry tomatoes, halved
  • ¼ cup (40g) red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup (100g) cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 slices cooked bacon, crumbled (optional)
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 4 tablespoons (60ml) burger sauce or dressing of choice

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, gently combine ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until just mixed.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned beef and cook for 7-9 minutes, breaking into crumbles, until browned and cooked through.
  3. While meat cooks, prepare all vegetables and toppings, keeping them separate.
  4. Assemble bowls by starting with a base of romaine lettuce in each bowl.
  5. Add a portion of hot burger meat to the center of each bowl.
  6. Immediately sprinkle cheese over the hot meat if you want it to melt slightly.
  7. Arrange tomatoes, red onions, bacon crumbles, and avocado slices around the meat.
  8. Drizzle with burger sauce or dressing of choice just before serving.
  9. Serve immediately while the contrast between hot meat and cool vegetables is at its peak.
