Description

Basil Cream Chicken: Creamy chicken dish with fresh basil, garlic, and parmesan cheese. Quick, comforting, and crowd-pleasing recipe.


Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 lbs/680g)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
  • ½ cup (120ml) chicken broth
  • ½ cup (50g) freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped, plus extra for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the chicken breasts Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper on both sides.
  2. Step 2: Sear the chicken Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken breasts until golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes per side. Remove the cooked chicken to a plate and tent loosely with foil to keep warm.
  3. Step 3: Saute garlic In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add butter. Once melted, add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Be cautious not to burn the garlic.
  4. Step 4: Deglaze the pan Pour in chicken broth and use a wooden spoon to scrape up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan.
  5. Step 5: Add cream and simmer Pour in heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Let the sauce reduce and thicken slightly, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Step 6: Incorporate Parmesan Stir in grated Parmesan cheese until fully melted and incorporated into the sauce.
  7. Step 7: Add basil Add most of the chopped basil to the sauce, reserving some for garnish. Stir to incorporate and let it infuse for about 1 minute.
  8. Step 8: Return chicken to skillet Return the seared chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Let the chicken simmer in the sauce for 1-2 minutes to heat through.
  9. Step 9: Serve Serve the Basil Cream Chicken hot, garnished with the remaining fresh basil and additional Parmesan if desired
