- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or deep 9-inch pie plate.
- Peel, core, and slice apples into 1/4-inch thick slices. Place in a large mixing bowl and toss with lemon juice.
- In a small bowl, combine 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Sprinkle over apples and toss until evenly coated.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, brown sugar, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add cold butter cubes and work into dry ingredients using fingertips until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in oats.
- Transfer apple mixture to prepared baking dish. Sprinkle crumble topping evenly over apples.
- Place dish on a baking sheet and bake for 45-50 minutes, until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbling around edges.
- Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
