Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce (or homemade tomato sauce)
- 1 package (9 oz) no-boil lasagna noodles
- 1 ½ cups ricotta cheese
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to preheat while you prepare the ingredients.
- Brown the meat: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Once cooked, drain any excess fat.
- Prepare the sauce: Add the marinara sauce to the skillet with the browned meat and stir to combine. Add the dried basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Mix the cheese filling: In a separate mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, half of the mozzarella, and half of the Parmesan. Stir until everything is evenly mixed.
- Assemble the lasagna: In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Place a layer of no-boil noodles on top. Add a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture, followed by more meat sauce. Repeat the layers, ending with a final layer of sauce.
- Top with cheese: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top of the lasagna.
- Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it rest: Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
