Ingredients
Scale
For the Biscuits:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Gravy:
- 1 pound breakfast sausage (your choice of sausage)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Biscuits: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder (if using). Add the milk and melted butter, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Assemble the Biscuits: Pour the melted butter into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit dough into the dish, spacing them evenly. The biscuits will spread as they bake, so don’t worry about them being perfectly placed.
- Bake the Biscuits: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake the biscuits for 20-25 minutes, or until they’re golden brown on top and cooked through.
- Make the Gravy: While the biscuits bake, heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the sausage until it’s browned and fully cooked, breaking it up into small crumbles. Once the sausage is cooked, sprinkle the flour over it and stir well. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook the gravy for 5-7 minutes, or until it thickens. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.
- Assemble the Dish: Once the biscuits are done, remove them from the oven. Pour the sausage gravy over the biscuits and return the dish to the oven for another 5-7 minutes, allowing the gravy to set.
- Serve: Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve immediately and enjoy!
